Baxter & Bailey Project
This project is all about stamp creation and design. The project brief was given to us by multi-award winning graphic designers 'Baxter & Bailey'.
The brief is to design a set of 4-8 special issue stamps for the Royal Mail. Each student was randomly given a theme from a set list. My theme is 'British Design Pioneers'.
My Primary Target audience will be; stamp collectors, Fans or enthusiasts of my theme, Post office shoppers and visitors of the Royal Mail website. My secondary target audience is; the wider public and national press/broadcasters.
For this project i need to stick to the set standards:
- I need to design 4- 8 stamps in total as well as 2 hand stamps.
- I can use the standard stamp cutter that i am provided but i can also use unusual or bespoke cutter guides.
- In addition to cutting guides i have also been supplied with general measurements for the hand stamps.
- I am allowed to use special perforations, gloss varnishes, spot colours, UV colours etc.
- The stamps must include all statutory elements such as the kings head and the value. These elements MUST be included in the correct sizing and format.
- Hand Stamps are produced as rubber stamps, so they need to be created using one colour and avoid details that are too complex or fine.
- Show all choices for designs in first presentation, this is so we can get good feedback and distil down to a single design.
- This project is all about the research, so spend two weeks on initial design ideas, then leave a week for researching.
- A stamp project requires us to work on a micro-scale. See ways I can simplify my design approach so stamps are clear and visually dynamic.
