History:
Dalhousie originally erected in the 13th Century. The original foundations have weathered, but it took shape around 1450. Guests used to enter through a drawbridge that was over a dry moat; you can still see the holes from the drawbridge mechanisms to this day. Interior: There is a mural staircase and a spiral staircase which leads from what was he first floor of the keep to the top of the 'bottle dungeon'. This used to be a windowless cell where prisoners were lowered by rope. |
Current design
|
The design was inspired by the castle's interior, drawing inspiration from the crest, fittings, and even historic furniture to create a logo that is both elegant and historic.
Capturing a sense of place and history was essential in crafting the new identity for Dalhousie Castle. The brand emphasises the castle’s timeless tradition of warm hospitality, aiming to provide customers with an authentic castle experience. Inspiration for the logotype and supporting monogram was drawn from architectural details within the castle, along with nods to the original Ramsay family crest. These elements were crafted to reflect the castle's history, while still appealing to a modern audience. |

Logo development
Dalhousie interiors
I was intrigued by the interior designs of the castle itself, especially the carpet fittings. The specific red carpet reminded me of the curves in calligraphy typefaces.
